Assembly Tools For The Talented Craftsman
P/N GS-0001, AKM - AK-74 Barrel Disassembly & Assembly Tool $37.10 Shipped
Option - With Cold Black Oxide Treatment $39.10 Shipped

This tool is designed to safely disassemble the components of the barrel from a cut-up or intact barrel assembly of It can also be used to assemble the parts on a new or reclaimed barrel. It is a superior replacement for plain press plates and rails that are available elsewhere and allows the thin-walled barrel components to be moved without damage. The slot for the rear sight block is counterbored with a lip that fits the area where the barrel meets the rear sight block assembly, and this is critical for the AK-74 type rifle barrel. What rifles does it work with? It works with AKM and AK-74 barrels from Russia, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Poland - including the Tantal. It does not work for the Yugoslavian AK due to the vast difference of journal diameters compared to the AKM design. It also does not work for any of the RPK type rifles. It is manufactured from 5/8"-thick x 1 1/2" wide x 7 1/2" long AISI 1018 cold-drawn steel that is not heat-treated. The price for this tool is $36.90 shipped priority post with a delivery confirmation number. These are normally in stock, but can be manufactured with less than a one-week lead time if stock is depleted.

Most of the Yugoslavian RPK rifles used in the Balkan War have barrels that were worn beyond use and new barrels are now available from other suppliers. A Tutorial Of Applying The GS-0003-A, -B, -C Toolset Done By A Fellow Enthusiast
P/N GS-0005 AK Barrel Pushing Tool $59.55 Shipped
The Tool Shown Below Is The Prototype - The Tool In Production Is Treated With Cold Black Oxide For No Addtional Charge

What's New? - Take A Look Above!
A suitable tool to "push back" a newly-installed barrel has not been around for a long time. This type of tool is invaluable during headspacing operations as it provides a direct on-center force to the barrel breech and is long enough to press the barrel completely out if desired. This tool works with a fully-assembled receiver and misses the tang completely. The small brass shoe at the tip is easily and economically replaceable should it become worn to the end it is not useful. The tool works for both the milled and stamped receivers of the AK, AK, AK-74, and RPK rifles in all calibers.
We all have used a tool that was at best a compromise as it was a long steel rod buffered at the breech with some pennies or a small brass disk. Such makeshift tools always pushed at an angle and did not provide a straight push on the barrel's centerline. This tool keeps things absolutely straight. The tool shown above is the prototype model that has since been altered to fit the 7,62 x 54,0R Romanian PSL and it is now treated with black oxide to make it more attractive and corrosion-resistant. Please let me know if you need the special shoe for the PSL and I can substitute it. Additional shoes of either type are available for $2.50 each plus shipping.
The GS-0005 normally ships in a tube, but can be shipped with any of the other tools in a USPS priority medium box for the same price. If it fits - it ships. These have not been available from anyone for quite some time so I think it is time to offer a new economical design to fellow enthusiasts.

I designed, built, and proofed an array of special tools that provide a accurate and faultless assembly process for the components of both the AKM and the AK-74 rifles. There are good tools offered from other sources that are definitely more economical to purchase than the ones I designed, but of course I like mine the best. These tools are designed to be built by any competent toolmaker with a minimum amount of machinery. I cannot sell these tools for a competitive price, so I make the drawings available to anyone who wishes to manufacture them themselves.
